Michigan Wolverines men's basketball: Three Decades of Failure (aka the Curse of Chris Webber)

Hi guys, long time no see. I'm back again with yet another Legacy of Failure.
And this new LoF is heavily inspired by Tree's new LoF for the Maple Leafs. May not be as dramatic by I'll do my best.
And I'm also doing this LoF post because of the dire situation College Sports is in right now. But I'll explain more of that at the end of this rant.
Now, let us begin, with the One Billionth roasting of my favorite College team, the Michigan Wolverines, but in basketball edition.
April 3, 1989 - "Michigan is only 3 seconds away from claiming it's first ever national championship and becoming the first team to win both the Rose Bowl and the NCAA in one year. P.J. Carlesimo can not change, he is out of timeouts...they're gonna have to get the ball over Mills who will try to Harris, the big man on the throw-in...starts when touched, long pass, Walker, Green battle, fires up, it's over! Michigan has won the National Championship!
Well done, Michigan, after your first two attempts failed you have finally climbed to the top of the College Basketball world! Feels good, eh? The basketball National Championship is finally in your hands. With some of your top stars like Glen Rice moving away to the NBA draft, great challenges are sure to rise, but you've still got plenty of time to cement yourself among the Blue Bloods of College Basketball. The Future looks bright for you...
1989 offseason - After leading your team to a National Championship as an interim coach after we told that underachieving fuck Bill Frieder to fuck off, Steve Fisher is now officially your new head coach. Things are looking promising indeed...
1990 - Yes they are as Coach Fisher leads the Wolverines to another strong season at 23-8 and the #3 seed in the West Regional bracket! Unfortunately they are they pounded in the second round by 11th seeded....LOYOLA MARYMOUNT?! AND THEY DROPPED 149 POINTS ON YOU?!! Jesus Christ what a complete slaughter...this has got to be the worst title defense effort I have ever seen in my life!!
Please don't let this be a sign of bad things to come...
1991 - Turns out that Loyola Marymount whooped Michigan's ass so hard that they completely fell to shit and missed the Big Dance. Guess 1989 was a fluke after all...things need to change and fast...
1991 offseason - The Wolverines end up making the offseason splash to end all splashes. They end up recruiting what is arguably the most promising Freshman squad in College Basketball history. With their totally gangsta "Boys 'n the Hood" persona, baggy shorts and Ice-T like personalities, All-American High School basketball star Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, along with Texas-sized high school basketball stars in Jimmy King and Ray Jackson, they form a new College Basketball superteam simply known as - the "Fab Five." The rest of the College Basketball world better get ready to protect their balls from being kicked in, because the Wolverine basketball Empire is about to begin...MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!
1992 - Though not perfect, the Fab Five do not disappoint and finish with a solid 25-9 record and the #6 seed in the Southeast Region.
1992 NCAA Tournament - The Fab Five manage to win Tournament games against Temple and East Tennessee State in the first and second rounds respectively. After narrowly defeating Oklahoma State in the Sweet 16, they make it to an Elite Eight showdown with their biggest rival - those Buckeye fucks from Ohio State. Bring down the hammer.
1992 NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! How do you like dem apples, Suckeyes?!! The Wolverines pull off the upset in OT and make it to their 5th Final Four! Go take your sorry asses back to Columbus, Suckeyes, it's time for the Wolverines to form...the Empire...
1992 Final Four - The Cinderella run for the Fab Five continues as Michigan edges past 4th seeded Cincinnati in the National Semifinal, and on their way to the National Championship game against those fuckers from Duke. Christian Laettner, Grant Hill and Coach K won't know what kind of freight train is gonna hit them! Move over, Blue Devils, here come the Wolverines!!
1992 National Championship Game - Here come the Wolverines as they blow their halftime lead and do absolutely nothing in the 2nd half as Duke goes on to repeat as National Champions and form their own Empire instead. Like seriously, you couldn't even try to make it close? Fuck off with your choking.
Oh well, still a successful season though. Next year you'll get over the hump!
1993 - What did I tell you? The Fab Five make the rest of the Big Ten into their bitch and finish the season with Michigan's best record yet at 26-4 and the #1 seed in the West regional! Onto your glorious future!
1993 NCAA Tournament, Second Round - Ugh, you're already blowing it in the second round against UCLA?! Just get it over with already so I can hit the Molson bottles...wait...Michigan...didn't choke?!
1993 NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight - After defeating Temple you finally make it back to the Final Four, and you have a tough challenge coming up against those Wildcats from Kentucky in New Orleans. I'm not too sure about this...
1993 Final Four - Did you just pull off a shocker against Kentucky in OT without making a single 3-point shot?! Well, I may have faith in you once more! You once again make it back to the National Championship...and you're facing that OTHER ACC powerhouse in North Carolina. You're even ranked higher than they are and have a good shot at winning! Don't blow this again...
1993 National Championship Game - Okay, you're down by 2 with only 19 seconds remaining. Try and at least send this into OT for now...
"Michigan...will have to bring it in-OH HE WALKED!! HE WALKED IT AND A REFEREE MISSED IT!! Webber brings it into the front court, they have no timeouts remaining-OH HE CALLED TOO MANY TIMEOUTS, it's a technical foul! He called a timeout, Michigan didn't have any! He got by with a walk, he calls a timeout, he doesn't realize that's Michigan's 'too many', and so it will be a technical foul, North Carolina shooting, and the ball."
Are you fucking kidding me? Instead of going into a corner you could have attempted a 3 point shot or passed to another open player. For fucks sake, the refs and the Tar Heels were literally HANDING you the game on a silver platter and you blew it yet again. You are utterly pathetic. Complete and utter garbage. I hope you don't make it this far in the tournament again for another 20 years.
May 1993 haunt you for eternity!!
What a truly...pathetic display. YOU BLEW IT!!!
1994 - After that impressive chokejob, the Fab Five devolve into the Fab Four as Chris Webber fucked off to the NBA Draft. Nonetheless, the remaining 4 Fab Five players lead Michigan to yet another strong regular season finish at 21-6 and the #3 seed in the West Region. They make it back to the Elite Eight only to have their hopes and dreams smashed by Arkansas. President Bill Clinton laughs at your pathetic excuse for a basketball team as his Razorbacks go on to win the National Title. The window is beginning to slam shut...
1995 - The Fab Four has now become the Fab Two as Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose have left for the NBA. The Wolverines barely squeak into the NCAA Tournament as the #9 seed in the Midwest region...only to lose to...fucking Western Kentucky?! In OT?! The hell??!
1996 - The Fab Five era has officially ended at Michigan, but the Wolverines still make it back to the NCAA Tournament with an improved 21-10 record and the #7 seed in the Midwest Region. Only to receive a Lone Star State-sized ass whooping at the hands of Texas in the first round.
1997 - Despite another winning record you miss out on the NCAA tournament for the first time in 6 years. You at least make the NIT, and you win THAT tournament's championship game against Florida State?! I...guess that's impressive. Michigan fans, I hate to say it but this is your team's best moment since 1989. Cherish it. Because you're not gonna like what's coming next.
1997 offseason - Michigan then rewards Steve Fisher's efforts for winning the NIT tournament...by firing him before the start of next season during a scandal...which we will explain next. Let's rewind the tape a bit...
1996 - Michigan has plans to rebuild back into a powerhouse. They decide to recruit an upcoming high school star from Flint named Mateen Cleaves. As he and Maurice Taylor are driving to Ann Arbor, they lose control of their Ford Explorer on M-14 and flip over. Turns out they were going to visit a prominent...University of Michigan booster named Ed Martin. Who apparently supplied players with money...and ran an illegal gambling operation...and a money laundering operation...which are in violation of NCAA rules. Oops. Let's hope the NCAA sweeps this whole thing under the rug...if not then you are totally fucked...
1998 - With Steve Fisher gone your new head coach is Brian Ellerbe. Thanks to stars like "Tractor" Traylor and Louis Bullock the Wolverines finish with a strong 24-8 record. They manage to win another tournament game and move on to the next round...where they are then upset by UCLA.
Now is where the real suffering begins...
1999 - Turns out that Ellerbe's first season was a fluke and your window has now slammed shut on your hands. You're terrible again! You turn into a laughing stock by finishing dead last in the Big Ten.
2000 - You are so trash that you lose in the first round...of the NIT tournament...to the Fighting Irish...trash.
2000 National Championship Game - Remember that Mateen Cleaves guy you tried to recruit? Well, turns out he became a contributor to your rival Michigan State's run to a second National Title. May your suffering continue...
2001 - You finish near the bottom of the Big Ten yet again with a 10-18 record. The team is choking so hard that they tell Brian Ellerbe and his choking ways to fuck off.
But wait, there's more!
2002 - Good news is that the NCAA decides not to put sanctions on you. The bad news is...your University's administration decides to do the NCAA's job for them. As a result of the Ed Martin scandal, University of Michigan administrators decide to vacate your entire 1993 season, as well as each game from the 1995 to the 1999 season. Also, your appearance in the 1992 Final Four has been vacated. Not the entire tournament, just the Final Four. Jesus Christ, even after 1993, the College Basketball world is still sodomizing this team with a chainsaw...
2002, continued - With Brian Ellerbe gone, Michigan decides to recruit the glorious....TOMMY AMAKER...oh Christ, you are so fucked...my condolences...
2004 - You finished with a 18-11 record? At least you made the NIT...and you won the NIT again against Rutgers? Well, I'll be damned, at least it's not all torture.
2006 - You made the NIT tournament again but you lose to South Carolina in the championship game. Please tell me there's a light at the end of the tunnel...soon...
2007 - The Tommy Amaker era is finally over, now get the fuck out of here with your losing.
2007 offseason - It's time for us to hire a real head coach again. This John Beilein guy will do.
2009 - John Beilein's effects on the team are very positive, as thanks to new recruits such as Zack Novak, Stu Douglass and DeShaun Sims, the Wolverines FINALLY make it back to the NCAA tournament after 11 years. They make it in as the #10 seed in the South regional and pull off an upset against Clemson in the first round...but in the second round they are then defeated by Blake Griffin and Oklahoma. You've got promise though. Keep it going.
2011 - After a disappointing 2010 season the Wolverines finally make it back to the NCAA tournament, this time as an #8 seed in the West Region. After pulverizing Tennessee in the first round, they clash with their old foe from years past in Duke in the second round...only to be narrowly defeated in the final seconds. Man, fuck those assholes from Duke...
2012 - Thanks to new recruits Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jordan Morgan, the Wolverines experience their best season in ages and finish the regular season ranked for the first time in 15 years. They're the #4 seed in the Midwest region...and the lose in the first round...to Ohio. Yes...Ohio. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU LOSE TO A FUCKING MAC TEAM IN THE FIRST ROUND ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME...GET ME THE GODDAMN BLEACH.
2013 - Anyway, let's just look at the fact that the Wolverines just recruited the top class in the country for 2013. New recruits Mitch McGary, Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III join Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. in forming...the new Fab Five. At least this reincarnation won't be scandal ridden.
2013, continued - Michigan experiences their best season since the Fab Five era as they pull off numerous feats, starting of the season 19-1, being ranked #1 in the AP Poll for the first time in two decades and finishing with a 26-7 regular season record. They are the #4 seed in the South region, and they steamroll past South Dakota State and VCU to reach their first Sweet 16 appearance since 1994.
2013 NCAA Tournament, Sweet 16 - Ugh, you're down by 3 against Kansas in the final seconds...just get it over with-you're not choking? You pulled off the upset in OT? Say it isn't so!
2013 NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight - And then you embarrass Florida and finally make it back to the promised land - your first Final Four appearance in 20 years. And you're facing another tough opponent looking to end their own championship drought in Syracuse. Eh, they made it far enough, it's your time now!
2013 Final Four - You manage to take out Syracuse and you make it back to the National Championship! And you're facing yet another team with a lengthy championship drought in Louisville. Hell, some have listed you as an upset favorite to win the title! Bring it home!
2013 National Championship Game - You're up by 12 in the first half...now finish them!!!
Second Half - What?! WHAT?!! You seriously blew a 12 point lead to a Louisville team that was all but handing you the game?! I...I can't even...just fuck off already. Time to hit the bleach again...YOU BLEW IT!!!
2014 - New year, strong start. You're the #2 seed in the Midwest Region and are heavy favorites to win the title. Duke and Wichita State all choked early so you have a chance to make the Final Four again. Don't disappoint...
2014 NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight - You're up by 10 against an 8th seeded Kentucky team. Finish them off-wait, you blew that lead too? What the fuck is wrong with you and blowing leads to inferior competition?! Well, this bleach ain't gonna drink itself...
2016 - After collapsing in the 2015 season, the team is back in rebuilding mode again, but makes it back to the NCAA Tournament. Though you manage to defeat Tulsa in the First Four you are then pulverized by Notre Dame in the first round. The window is shutting again...wonderful...
2017 - Or not! After a sluggish start, new recruits Jordan Poole, Isaiah Livers, German phenom Moe Wagner, and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rakman, the Wolverines manage to win the Big Ten tournament and gain an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as a #7 seed in the Midwest Region. After squeaking by Oklahoma State in the first round, they then get revenge on Louisville for 2013 and return to the Sweet 16. Unfortunately, they are edged out by Oregon, a team that hadn't made the Final Four in almost 80 years. Woof.
2017 offseason - Great news! Turns out that due to a sex scandal involving head coach Rick Pitino, Louisville has been forced to vacate their 2013 title! So I guess you can call yourselves the unofficial champions? At least you don't have to hang your heads in shame anymore...yay?
2018 - You win the Big Ten Tournament yet again and finish the regular season with a 28-7 record. You are the #3 seed in the West Region. Please let this be the year...
2018 NCAA Tournament, Second Round - Ugh, you're down by 2 against Houston? Just get it over wi-
"At mid court, extra pass...'buzzer sounds'...IN IT GOES FOR THE WIN!!! THE THREE POINTER...BY JORDAN POOLE!!!"
You're not choking...
2018 NCAA Tournament, Sweet 16 - You're gonna lose to Texas A&M?! They haven't made it out of the Sweet 16 in their EXISTENCE for god's sake. Don't tell me you're gonna shit the be-you're not choking?
2018 NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight - Are you seriously trying to hand Florida State the game here? Quit playing down to your competition! Do something for once! Beat their asse-you're...not...choking? You made the Final Four? And you're facing the Cinderella team of the decade in Loyola-Chicago? I'll be damned.
2018 Final Four - After being down by 11 to Loyola-Chicago you come back to beat Loyola-Chicago by 12 and ruin Sister Jean's hopes for a second national title for the state of Illinois. You're back in the Championship game, and you're facing a tough opponent in Villanova. Will this be the year you finally break through?!
2018 National Championship Game - And you then proceed to blow yet another lead and get Death Starred by the Wildcats. Your best season since 1989, and you get turned into a laughing stock once again. Like seriously, you couldn't even make a close game out of this? God, you're pathetic. And as a result of all this choking you now have the WORST ever record in the National Championship game of the teams that have won a National Title at 1-6. You are tied with Duke and Kansas for most losses in the National Title game. To quote Asuka from End of Evangelion, "Pathetic." I'm going to combine this bleach with fabric softener now. It's been ages since 1993 now and College Basketball is still sodomizing this team with a Chainsaw.
2019 - Okay, you may be the #3 seed in the West region again but your window is beginning to slam shut now. Please, do SOMETHING!! You don't. You get embarrassed by Texas Tech in the Sweet 16 - a team that hadn't made it past the Sweet 16 in their existence.
And now John Beilein has decided to fuck off to the NBA. Fuck...here come the dark ages again.
2020 - Former Fab Five alum Juwan Howard is your new head coach, and it turns out that he's not that bad. He leads you to a 19-12 start going into the Big Ten tournament...and then COVID-19 hits and the NCAA tells everyone to fuck off. No tournament this year...
And I'm all out of bleach now. Maybe this team can let me down at my funeral like they have for the past decade...
As a Michigan fan I feel completely broken. Years upon years of failure after that one magical season in 1989. Was this team really worth saving? All of the wasted talent, all of the chances they had to finally end the misery...and for what? A hollow claim to a paper championship in 2013 which Louisville vacated. A 1-6 record in the National Championship game. FOUR straight losses in the National Championship game since the 1989 title. Never ending misery thanks to the Curse of Chris Webber.
But to be frank with you guys, I honestly think 2018 and 2019 were indeed Michigan's final chances to win a second national title. And it's beginning to look that way with the recent COVID pandemic, as the Big Ten has just decided to cancel football for the 2020 season. And if more conferences cancel, it will likely mean no college sports PERIOD this year. So the NCAA Tournament could be cancelled yet again. March Madness is at least 90% of the NCAA's budget revenue, and if the NCAA Tournament is cancelled for 2021, we could see not just the NCAA lose tons of money, but many college athletic departments go under. Welcome to what could be the College Sports apocalypse.
And if you think that the Government is going to bail out any of these athletic departments while this country is still overcoming a loss of a third of it's GDP, I have a bridge in Northern Michigan that I'd like to sell you.
There's no way these athletic departments are getting bailouts right after claiming non-profit status, but had the balls to ask the senate for anti-trust exemptions. Total lack of self awareness.
We could witness the college sports version of the Smoot-Hawley act.
If College Sports does return late in 2020 or in 2021, it's going to look very different, dramatically different, and it may be for the worse.
And as a Michigan fan it makes me sad to think that the Wolverines may never win a title in college basketball or football ever again, especially since this pandemic is gonna have major financial ramifications, and potentially on the well known programs.
We could see the end of College Sports in it's current form, or for good. And this will be a miserable time for fans of teams that are suffering from a major title drought like Michigan and others.
Fuck this year. I'm beginning to think our world really did end on December 21, 2012, and we're all just living in a simulation now.

That time of year is creeping up on me again and I am struggling to cope.

Thanksgiving, and generally between October to December, is a difficult time of year for me because of trauma.
I am already struggling with it and I am scrambling to come up with alternative coping mechanisms to better endure this time of year.
I've tried to get therapy for this but the therapists that I keep running into are not equipped to properly help me with these issues, it is an expensive gamble that hasn't panned out well at all.
I've recently found an effective therapeutic protocol for my partner, this is a huge breakthrough but it takes a massive toll on me and these sessions last for hours. I have to buffer myself up more to help him with his issues, therapists have let him down too.
We don't have support other than each other, his mom throws us financial support here and there but that is it. But his traumas stem from his familial situation and going anywhere near them doesn't seem to be healthy for my partner because of how they minimize his issues.
Right now I am riddled with guilt, heavy and relentless guilt, over Thanksgiving of 2013. My cousin and the rest of them let her 4 year old kid go behind closed doors with an aunt that I witnessed grope the inside of her sister thigh while she was in a medical coma. This sister, one of my aunts, almost died from a suicide attempt and her sister, whom I call pervert aunt now, took that as an opportunity to touch her in unnerving ways in the hospital, no doctors or nurses were there, just relatives, and she invited me to do the same.
The horror I felt that day when I witness that aunt grope her dying sister, I warned the cousin, the daughter of the aunt in a medical coma, that this aunt did this and to not leave her kid alone with this woman. This cousin said that she witnessed this too but didn't think the aunt was a child molester and proceeded to leave her kid alone with her.
This horrified me as well. I had heard rumors about this pervert aunt, rumors of her doing weird sexual shit with her younger sister, another aunt that eventually died of cervical cancer in recent years, and molesting her cousin. My mother briefly mentioned how she and the pervert aunt as teens were put in lingerie and their grandfather, my grandmother's father, took photos of them. Tears were in her eyes when she told this story.
As a 12 year old girl another aunt, I had 4 in total, left me with the pervert aunt and her baby, she told me to not leave her baby alone with this aunt. She put a 12 year old autistic girl in charge of protecting a baby from an adult's perversions. As soon as that aunt left, the power went out and I had to go downstairs and leave the baby alone with the pervert aunt. My 12 year old mind was rattled, I was afraid of the dark and I had to go down into the basement where it was pitch black to figure out how to turn the lights back on, no one taught me how to work that box but luckily I was handy. All the while my anxiety climbed.
I heard rumors of this pervert aunt's behavior, only rumors, I never personally witnessed this behavior until I was an adult in that hospital room where she groped her dying sister. Luckily that sister pulled through.
Thanksgiving of 2013, everyone let that kid go alone with that aunt into a separate room, I tried to follow to some how break up this bullshit, to try to protect this kid from her. I was messed up on anti-psychotics that I shouldn't have been prescribed, I was barely functional myself but what I witnessed sobered me up enough to try to stop it.
I tried to stop it, I followed them into the room to try to stop it, that disgusting look she gave, like she thought I was there for a show. It makes me wish I could have carved her face off. My mother pulled me out of the room and I had asked, "Is this really happening? Are we really going to let this happen?" I can't remember the exact words I asked, but I was pleading with her, pleading to show me that she was somehow still the hero that I thought she was.
But instead, she gave me that disgusting growl, "Yes." And the face she made, it burned into my mind, it amputated her and the rest of them from me in that moment. I knew there was no family then. That Thanksgiving was the first time in months at that point where I had a decent meal, I was living on rice crispy treats and coffee from the gas station along with 2 double cheese burgers and McDonald's coffee.
I knew then that I couldn't save them. It horrified me, it made me afraid of what kinds of fucked up things went on behind closed doors that I wasn't aware of. These people, my mother, her sisters and mother, they gossiped about the rape and abuse that foster kids (that my grandmother took in and profited from) endured.
They laughed about those wounds that vulnerable kids sustained while in the fostercare system.
I tried to figure out a way to help that 4 year old boy, calling CPS wouldn't help him though. It was my word against theirs, I was the only one that was proactive about remedying my mental health issues and I was the only one with an extensive mental health record because of this.
But even if my testimony would count for something, even if that would get the kid out of that situation, I have witnessed countless kids getting broken hard by the fostercare system, that kid would either end up with my grandmother (who would use him as a power play asset and this would be objectively worse) or that kid would be thrown into a foster home in Genesee county, which is mostly Flint Michigan, the place that would end up with lead water within a few months of that point in time.
I was teetering in and out of psychosis, but I know that what I saw that day was real and it horrifies me to this day. My grandmother won awards for being a fosterparent, for presumably being one of the best homes in the state of Michigan, those are the odds that await that boy in fostercare.
I resent my cousin for birthing a child for leverage like the rest of them did, how they catered to this pervert's bullshit breaks my brain.
I couldn't save that child, but I could save my partner. I went homeless, I flew to his country, and I worked and survived for over 6 years now to rehabilitate him and myself.
My partner still isn't fully healed though, and right now the best thing we have to work with to help him hurts me so much. I greatly benefited from medical marijuana for my trauma processing and anxiety issues but I've built too high of a tolerance over this summer with trying to drop a maladaptive coping mechanism, love addiction patterns basically (my partner and I were poly dating to try to earn a family/community but we've since abandoned this pursuit).
I have to detox for some weeks still until I have more supply, but I have enough supply to help my partner process his traumas. He is diagnosed with schizo-typal, and we've had to be careful with the dosing and the CBD to THC ratio.
We've finally found the right ratio and a strain that gives him actual relief from his chronic tension and trauma, but when he gets stoned he gets scary.
He rants for hours about God speaking to him and theories related about the truths of the universe, he gets very manic about it. This leaves me feeling terrified and alone in the world because he is all I have really and I barely have enough to pull myself together.
He rants about how he can't feel anything, about his anhedonia, he feels so far away on so many levels and these moments where he processes his traumas while stoned makes that reality stark and evident.
He rants about what has been done to him, what that did to him on so many levels, I fight to find the ways to endure this while trying not to develop pure resentment and malice towards his ignorant relatives.
Every bit of rehabilitation that we've earned has been a fight like this and I've been going like this alone for years with him. I can't even have a full relationship with him due to our collective traumas, I am not getting many of my relationship needs met.
I am starved out and yet I need to find the strength to fight yet another battle to earn our health back. Healing is a relative privilege, the fact that we can heal at all is outstanding.
But I am in pain, every single day. I can't even kiss my partner on the mouth because his breath is absolutely horrible, his breath his horrible because his guts are all messed up because of being put on benzodiazepines for 5 years (Ativan), for being forced to eat nearly rotten food growing up, for being neglected and not taught basic self care like brushing his teeth or general hygiene.
I can't be intimate with my partner because he acts very infantile to cope with his issues, he makes me feel like a pedophile for wanting an adult relationship with him and this has utterly destroyed my sexual attraction to him.
However, he knows me so well, inside and out. I knows me almost telepathically sometimes and I know him like that too. We fought together to earn better. I struggle to try to make up the difference from his neglectful childhood, to teach him basic livings skills but I was utterly burnt out 6 years ago from the things I've had to endure in my life.
I feel hurt and lost right now, I have love addiction cravings (these were never directed at my partner luckily), I'm trying to figure out what the next sustainable move is from here.
I'm trying to figure out:
Just, I have to keep digging for more ways to power through it all. I need to find more ways to become more powerful to carry these burdens, this hurt, to earn a better life where my partner isn't suffering as much, nor myself.
We've earned far better than where we started. Even this annual illness that I deal with due to trauma improves a bit every year. I'm just so worn out, I fought so hard to earn this much and I never really know when it all could come crashing down on my head.
The weed sessions with my partner are hard to endure, but the results after the sessions are very promising, I see that he physically moves better afterwards, he is calmer, his chronic pain is eased and there seems to be long lasting, positive effects and no negative side effects thus far. These sessions are once a week, but I struggle to build up myself enough to endure those 5-6 hour rants to support him through it, but we are developing alternative protocols to make this process more sustainable for us both.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't exactly know what to tag this with, I tried my best with that.

Player/Streamer Owned Poker Room Idea

I'm not a big Reddit user but this seemed like a very Reddit idea, so forgive any faux pas.
To start, Michigan has a law where charities can hold 'millionaire parties' and gamble - including poker. The way the law is structured charities can rent everything they need from a licensed supplier. There are now like 50 venues across the state wherein charities rent the room, tables, chairs, chips, dealers, cards, etc from the business for a flat fee, then the charity gets 100% of the rake. There was a moratorium on these rooms some time ago but I saw one open in 2018 and that got my wheels turning.
My context which can be skipped: I'm a 32yo actuary, business owner, and rec player with lots of experience. I played a lot in college and did well at a native casino and some of these Flint poker rooms playing 6/12 limit & 1/2nl which played more like 2/5 with straddles on. That said, although I can generally clean up really weak games and max out profits on good runs, I'm not a 'good' player anymore - I get a little loose, pay too much for draws especially after about 3-4 hours of play if I'm grinding or stuck, and overvalue premium hands post-flop. I had a good run in December 18 and January of this year at 2/5 games in Detroit, and decided I wanted to re-establish a bankroll and improve my play. So for the first time in the dawn of YouTube, I discovered poker vlogs.
The basic idea would be to create a studio table ala Live at the Bike somewhere in Michigan (or other state where opening a poker room isn't illegal) near an airport in an invite-only poker room. Who's invited? The people that own the room, and people that live stream.
At the outset, shares in the business are offered at *$100 each. With at least *500 shares sold that's *$50,000 which would be *enough to get the most barebones 6 table room open with no studio table. The short term goal would be to generate enough of a rake to be able to charge charities *$1,000/night average, 4 nights out of the week. (Each charity can do this 4 times per year, so we'd just set them up with 4-day blocks including Friday and Saturday, so the charge would be *$4,000 for the week. My guess is a full table generates *$60-100/hour, taking *$50 as a low estimate, times 6 tables full for 8 hours on Fri & Saturday, and 3 full tables on the other two days totals *$7,500. So the pitch to charities is that they pay *$4,000, but the invoice isn't due until closing time after 4 days, so really they just get *$3,500 free dollars. Notice that in this scenario half of the rake is returning to the club, which is where being an owner of the room makes sense.
Staff would be compensated with shares in the company and would just rely on tips at the outset. I think since they'd be owners min wage laws wouldn't apply. Even with min wage the math still works out. The *$16,000 in monthly revenue would leave enough left over after rent and other expenses to begin building out the studio.
To prevent early struggles from hampering progress, owner-members would be obligated/entitled to a *membership fee / *dividend, calculated *quarterly, which would start at *$0 and increase to as high as maybe *$25/share/quarter in the case of a slow start. Assuming revenues cover costs the dividend would remain *$0 for several years as profit would be reinvested and added value would be reflected in share price rather than paid out. Once it became clear that the room was capturing all the business it could, the dividend would begin.
Studio/Streaming component:
I'm well aware that the revenue generated from this component would not be significant, but the player-owned model would be a lot more sustainable with an extra draw and the free/profitable advertising ability. Attracting streamers for meetup games would mean great business too. It would be a tremendous draw for people that want to get into vlogging because owners regularly playing on the stream would be able to cut videos with little/none of their own equipment. Could even open the studio on off days for an owner for $30/hour including an engineer to shoot and cut a video for them including vids from an earlier live stream so they literally need nothing to start a vlog and can just focus on playing.
So yeah. That's my half of an idea.
Edit: If I were to do this it would be in Detroit or metro Detroit closer to the airport. The downtown area has come back tremendously and there would be plenty of interested players.
*I do already own a business so I'm not unaware of all the hurdles and areas in which the above plan is lacking details. I'm 1000% positive many comments will insist on how stupidly unrealistic this is because blah blah blah. All of my numbers are educated guesses based on my business & poker knowledge which I just inserted here as placeholders to an actual business plan that I never intend to flesh out. The idea here is to convey one idea for the basis of creating such a model. If someone else wanted to do this in Michigan near Detroit I would join, but I have no plans of doing this myself so please do not issue any corrections to numbers or warnings that business is risky and that my numbers are unrealistic or whatever else. I am aware.

Just another guys big board. Round 2.

(EDIT: Formatting changed 31 to 1 etc)
  1. Zach Collins - PF/C - I really liked his efficiency, but it was against WCC bench units, so I took that with a large pinch of salt, as at that stage, there was not much distancing him from Jock Landale, who also stepped it up in the post season, but it became clear Zach was at another level to him as he moved on through the tournament. I am still uncertain in his actual ability and upside I ve just seen too many average guys come into the NBA and struggle with the pace and he does not have a high enough level of fundamentals for me across the board to provide offensive versatility. Slow twitch and probably even more so when he fills out so I could see more of a Miles Plumlee than a Mason but will take some serious gym time. I was buying into the hype but then saw him down the stretch, pretty good touch and off the ball movement, and blocked a few attempts round the basket, I just dont see his skillset making it at the next level and he will just get worked on the perimeter and abused in the pnr without the offensive game to make it worthwhile. A simple jumper would go a long way and he is more likely than the average college big to achieve that but still not convinced by the athleticism which may limit his upside, 6/10 for durability.
  2. Bam Adebayo - PF/C - Bam really disappointed me and I think I can count the number of times on one hand where he went into the fast twitch hyper mode that he could have obliterated the NCAA with if he had cleared his mind and operated on that level throughout this season. It is obvisouly mental for him, easily distracted and gets sped up out of his control when he is not being assertive enough and that is where the shocking DRB% of 17 is proof of that (Swanigan is almost doubt at 32.6%). He COULD be an amazing all around defensive lynchpin , like 1st team all defense level, and for 25 teams in this league, as a mobile 4 or 5 but I just don't know whether he brings it during the regular season with all the travel and distractions and if that leads to bad habits and demands too much from him psychologically. Bro psychologist warning but this is the only time when I will go to this as a major red flag but I could be wrong and hope I am and no problem with making a mistake in regards to this type of analysis. If Randle can produce a shot out of his limited game, Bam could, and as a ‘Suns-Amare style evolution’ given the right situation with an elite ball handler and PG to provide for him who really sharpens his mind and makes him realize how to stay on point every play. This will surely motivate him on the other end too where if he gets out in transition he will gobble up easy baskets and be near unstoppable. A wiley vet who can ride him and keep him in check off the court could be pivotal but really inconsistent on the court so far so just hard to predict, a lot like Hartenstein in that regard.
  3. Wesley Iwundu - SG/SF - In the Pat Mcgaw model of slender athletic 6'7 swingman with a 7ft wingspan, despite being 22.4 already, he is a proven ball handler and 2 way perimeter stud. He maybe only lacking in being slightly wild finishing in the paint, which might equate to the other end with low blk numbers for someone with his length. He still has potential and could improve his 3pt shot further, as he has seen improvements in his 2pt and FT%'s over the years at KSU where his usage increase was matched with a drop in TOV%, as he became more of the go to ball handler. His role is akin to Braxton Key’ at Alabama just without the knack at finishing round the rim but with the height and feel to spot open guys and push the pace in transition. An intriguing combination of skills for a league shrinking giving him 2-3 potential. He could end up in the D League for a stint in his rookie year but he stuck at it at Kansas State and that commitment could serve him well at the next level.
  4. Alpha Kaba - PF - Came on leaps and bounds at Mega Leks with increased mobility and license to roam on D, ability to put it on the floor and take defenders off the dribble at the elbow. Slightly overshadowed by Bolden's overall game and elite level 3pt shot for his size, Kaba has improved steadily over his career to 30% with around 4 stocks per 36, where for a 6'10 forward avg's more steals than blocks to highlight his defensive versatility for someone that size and weight. I think he could be a low risk bench presence with his sound fundamentals and overall activity, which is a bit of a catch all cliche for description in scouting for a draft but I think it holds up with someone like Kaba, whose old school tweener status and switchability onto smaller guy means the league has caught up to his skillset and I have a feeling he could flourish in a fluid system rather than being lumped at the 5 in a Capela role, as he has more to offer than that given what he has shown at his burgeoning role at Mega Leks. Less cumbersome than Lessort but not quite as dynamic as Millsap, he sits more in the Horford level of athleticism, closer to his Miami days than now of course but given that his durability should be 8/10 for the NBA.
  5. Josh Hart - SG - I ve been up and down on Hart but he has been more consistent than my opinion on him, all credit to him. However, he falls squarely in the camp of players at this range that failed to impress me sufficiently on top of what they did last season, Sumner, Bacon and Brooks are the leaders in this category and although boasting a varied and established skillset and being a proven season long competitor with leadership qualities, I am often disappointed with these types of players at the next level. It maybe because they feel they have punched themselves out in college and get frustrated at not being able to take their game to the next level at the pros, despite constant shot taking in the gym and constant help on hand to improve their games, but then fail to make the break through on the court. This could be down to the requirements of speed at their position that in turn places further demands on their bball IQ that could be hit and miss. I would love Hart to end up at PHI for the local crowd backing him off the bench and still considered a positional need where he can learn from Bayless as he has the potential of a secondary ball handler and their games will probably have a similar trajectory, where I see Hart’s value later in his career.
  6. Lauri Markkanen - PF -If you want to compare him to other 4's in this draft, I think he falls short in too many areas to be a confident selection for someone in the 1st round. We have seen Lamarcus Aldridge getting torn apart on the defensive end by a modern team that will require bigs like Lauri to defend on the perimeter and although he has more of a 3pt game, he has a long way to go to match LA's elite level midrange shooting combined with post game and servicable inside presence. I think he is going to have a career trajectory like Channing Frye and I despised him early in his career when he was not mobile enough to get his own shot and do anything inside on either end, to the point I could not believe the contract he got in Orlando but his role has slowly become more relevant in the NBA but needs a lot of support around him to give him a VERY SPECIFIC role and he could be really expensive on a team that needs him to do 2 or 3 more things more than his shooting, a rebounding% higher than 14% would help. As a pretty decent physical specimen I also give Markkanen an 8/10 for big man durability as his posture and core alignment remain pretty consistent, plus he does not bang much at the moment.
  7. Terrance Ferguson - SG/SF - Probably still considered an upside pick as a 19 year old wing, but he has shown symptoms of what I expected in his HS footage and spring classics, as a limited skillset, low bball IQ athlete during his time in Australia with only 15mpg and some disciplinary issues. I think there are a lot more reliable upperclassmen from NCAA that I would prefer in terms of risk because I don't think he has the upside to even make him worth a first round pick. He does have some scoring touch and tools and has size to maybe fill out to play the 3, but I dont see the quick twitch to stay in front of someone on D, unlike Iwundu, who is already ready to body up players and be used on the ball as a creator. Xavier Henry comes to mind, Mcdonalds All American, Summit and Jordan brand star but very little scope of his talent and actually rather slow despite his vertical and passable jumper.
  8. Edmond Sumner - PG/SG - Part of the class of 2nd years who were not quite as good as expected but I think he matured in parts of his games that were not necessarily an advance on the skills he demonstrated his freshman year. He is probably a smarter player and slightly limited as a creator but his vision over defences gives him a sneaky cross court pass and ability in the pnr that might carry over to the next level. His explosiveness is being balanced by his gym weight increasing but maybe his injury will come into play there, but not something I think will affect him long term and he could be a dark horse starting PG for a team struggling in that position like CHI are at 38 here and they were reportedly close on Baldwin last season and he is not that far away. The potential on D is slightly higher than his 3pt% potential, which is why he sits at this position rather than 10-15 spots up based on his height and athleticism and improved facilitating. I think this is a good spot for him.
  9. Dwayne Bacon - SG - Dwayne has all the tools for a modern day tweener at the 2-3 but I ve had to stick him in the class of poorer 2nd seasons based on the way he ended this season. His inconsistency for FSU was quite frustrating to watch and I think they could ve been a lot better of a team with his more consistent involvement but they played a rigid system that maybe didn't get the most out of him. His 6'9 wings are still a thing and making a third of his 3s is not ignorable, and his rebounding could ve been worse, so I think he could be a good pick up for someone in that range but not sure if he has been that locked in throughout the season to develop at an NBA rookie deal rate, and extensions could be a question well into his 2nd year if he does not prove he has an NBA game. His skills are not polished and could maybe be best suited for a defensive role, in like an OKC system, of a 1 way defensive player around some legit stars rather than being asked to produce an NBA level 2 way ability in the near future, based on how difficult that seemed for him at FSU.
  10. Isaiah Hartenstein - PF/C - I like his eagerness on both ends but he seems lost. Heard the stories of his glittering basketball upbringing but that almost makes me think he plays with a sense of entitlement on the court that is not backed up with skill and elite decision making like it should be. I think if you compare him to someone like Porter Jnr, someone he is trying to play like (not consciously) he fails on how to stay relevant away from the play and forces things way too much. Not playing much at this age in Europe is normal, the process of bringing in players is closer to Spursian logic of we want 60 wins AND to teach the kids how to play that way without jeopardising the team, but that being said, the amount of minutes you get at that age normally depicts how well you understand the entire concept, plays and your responsibility. Like he could be a solid catch and shoot guy, like a lot of these low minutes 6'8+ Euro prospects roles are, but from watching him this spring, he thinks he is way better than that. This could peak a teams interest when thinking of him in a freer system with more space and range in the US, but I think he has picked up too many bad habits too early and has all the hope of Bargnani and will probably have a more low key version of his trajectory. I see him playing back in Europe in 4-5 years rather than being the next Dirk! Not worked hard enough on his body yet but pretty fluid mover, 7/10 for durability.
  11. Justin Jackson UNC - SF - I believe JJ’s loose skillset around his elite shooting will bring him down to earth hard in the NBA. His high bounce on the dribble and struggle to get low in a stance is just cringey to watch. He is all arms going to the basket, which he has managed to get away with with being more confident over the last few years but I highly doubt he will push on, nevermind the beating he is going to get going up against PG, Hayward, Butler. Being wrapped in bubble wrap in college for the first few years is not a bad thing for everyone but I thought his emergence was just far too slow for an NBA level talent and I think there are just too many weaknesses that will be exposed at the next level which will end up with him as a bench 3pt threat. Speed and fundamentals like his are not going to scare anyone at the next level and he will be an easy cover, just stay out on him and make him put it on the floor, and at 22, I dont see him getting much tougher and improving on those bad habits. Good college player, lets see if he proves me wrong.
  12. Deng Adel - SG/SF - I ve been up and down on Adel, as someone who has probably peaked offensively but just scratching the surface of his defensive potential, which I think we will get an idea of at around 23 when his body finally matures. Considering his injury, he really added a ton to the Cardinals offense, as he could get hot from deep and handle in the pnr occasionally, creating mismatches and troubling players with his off the ball movement. If you put a gun to my head and told me to choose Adel or Heild today for your 2-3, I might have to take Adel for pure 2 way potential going forward for the Kings. I think it is his solid soccer background that gives him his awareness on the court on both ends and maybe coming late to the game and being restricted from injury is why we have not seen the peak of Adel's talent. Working with Pitino has given him an edge and sured up his movement off the ball but whether he has the ability to put the ball on the floor in traffic is a bit suspect coming late to the game his handles are not fluid, but maybe that can take a jump forward in the next few years. Very optimistic about his chances and probably deserves to go higher based on how he did this year and potential still untapped.
  13. Harry Giles - PF - Even with Giles' terrible injury history being taken into account, I was still disappointed with his overall game at Duke this season. Given his limited minutes I think he could have been most affective as a shooter in the midrange but he tended to stay too near the paint in clogged up situations when he did not have the sharpness to contest the boards or operate in closed quarters or the touch to finish around the rim. I think his limited range and confidence in that side of his game will leave little to be desired and a lot of hope and conjecture for what could be the final product. US basketball was probably his finest hour back in 2015 in the U19 category, but going back to watch his highlights on mainly dunks and rim running efforts, his landings are very suspect, and you can see his ass and core drop behind his body, which is a red flag for someone who needs to play wrecklessly to get the most out of him. We saw the same thing with a fatigued Embiid who came down against Portland with his body alignment completely perpendicular to his landing leg, putting all the weight on that one leg, which HAD TO buckle with all that weight on it! Fortunately for Harry that was 2015 and he has leaned up during his downtime, but I still see that fundamental core weakness and heaviness in his landing that would worry me about gambling on him but I am sure someone will, which is why he is even this high. Core issues mean his durability is 4/10.
  14. Devin Robinson - SF - A guy who has emerged slowly throughout his college career, at any point I was sure he was going to explode to lottery level numbers and you saw it occasionally against prime opposition but his consistent development is what will attract an NBA team. You don't have to look too far for a model, he has bags of DFS in his game, sneaky explosive, poise and can lock your best wing down for stretches. Consistently improved his 3 and focused rebounding again this year with back to back almost double doubles from the previous year shows he is not shy operating on the wing or down low. Given the premium on wings he is ahead of some suspect 4's on my board, as I think he ultimately gives you that 3-4 scope with a leaner body that I think will be less injury prone and the way he plays he is not wreckless or necessarily playing at 100mph, as he plays with low fouls against and stays in control and I think that is a indication of the professionalism, another thing that makes him a chip off the ol block from DFS, lets see if he can make the same impression.
  15. Tony Bradley - PF/C -No rim protection is probably the glaring issue with someone I was very high on before the season started in terms of pure fundamentals around the rim. He has everything you want in a big man within 12ft and that includes a jumper eventually but without protecting the rim I think he can fall victim to the unplayables in the league right now and that could stunt his growth at the next level. I think players like Bell are going to be more sought after unfortunately. It would be a shame to see that skillset not developed at the next level but the analytics just don't hold any mercy for players who can not stop the shots at the rim at the other end or guard out on the perimeter, both are things I am doubting Bradley could do at an elite level. One thing he can do at an elite level is ORB% at 18.7%, which should be 1st in NCAA (not on leaders list at sports-reference.com, maybe minutes?) with a decent BPM for a bench player in the ACC.
  16. Dillon Brooks - SG/SF - With only half a season to his name this year it is probably harsh to say he let me down on his 2nd year after what he promised last season but really made this team a serious contender when he came back. Almost an NBA body but slightly heavy making him slightly worrying as a 2-3 tweener because of slightly limited foot speed to guard 2s but lacking extra size for some 3's with a negative wingspan, but I think he can be used in certain match ups and if his 40% from 3 carries over he could be used more often. Denzel Valentine was a similar type of leader, more headier player, much bigger wingspan but he shot 44% in his senior year and ended up shooting 35% for the Bulls this season and that would be a good outcome for Brooks in a slightly better situation hopefully. I am a little worried about whether he is crafty enough and has the IQ but I think he has the discipline to restrict himself to a certain role because a lot of his turn around jumpers and faders in the lane are not polished enough to work against NBA length as he does not get high enough off the court or have the wings to pour in on defenses at the next level, could be very restricted with his length and skillset but that could benefit him finding a role he can produce in.
  17. Monte Morris - PG - PG of my favorite college team in the last 3-4 years. I think we can see Iowa States team identity take a massive hit with Morris leaving as a consistent creator and defensive anchor in the backcourt. I think he could have a significant impact off the bench due to his versatility as a PG who can be called on to use any of his skillsets needed depending on the situations. Had many games over 10 assists, consistent pest on D, can hit the 3 if needed, can work his way to the basket with sneaky speed and crafty lay ups, which can lead to some FT attempts but maybe you would like more than 3pg. There are not necessarily any stats that stand out but his usage shot up from 18.4 to 22.8 after Niang left but dropped in TO's from 1.6 to 1.2!! He may struggle to get to the rim at the next level but if he can replicate his borderline 50/38/80 %s and keep the 6 to 1 assist to TO ratio he will be a solid gamble for a team with an ageing back up PG. Smashed career BIG12 records over his 4 year career, special player, hope he can have a solid decade in the league and be a great nod to kids in Flint, Michigan.
  18. PJ Dozier - SG/SF - PJ is a smooth, athletic wing and only 20 years old at present which is actually really young in this draft. He started off the season shooting 40% from 3 but fell off and settled at 30% but his rawness and the need to focus on D maybe shifted his focus, with impressive 5 boards and 1.7 steals on the season. His game against Miss st. is a good example, 1-7 from 3 but 9 boards and 3 stls showing he could contribute defensively when his shot is not falling. For a supposed shooter his FT% is worrying at 55%, so there is just a few questions but his rawness and potential on both ends is attractive in a position of interest. Even though he is 6'6 at over 200lbs and a 7ft wingspan, as per NBAdraft.net, he is likely to play the 3 with those measurements but carries the extra size well with quick feet and first step explosion. Slightly too raw for a confident projection with unorthodox shots and movements meaning he can force up bricks but with good coaching and patience you could have a huge potential wing talent. Shout out for DWS NCAA top 20.
  19. D.J Wilson - SF/PF - I was a little worried about adding D.J. just based on what I saw in the tournament but I had the same POV with Dorsey, but looking back through the season I think I D.J. had a greater body of work on both ends and upside. An inside outside problem, a climber who gets out in transition with decent hands with an corner 3. I think he could be a solid gamble for a team missing a floating 4, who resembles a late blooming Jonathan Isaac in terms of movement and role but with a few inches longer wingspan but maybe a weaker rebounder, however he was used a lot more on the perimeter than Isaac on the whole. With wing like mobility and still and underdeveloped frame, I think he could add weight to bang inside with a pretty solid motor and not lose fluidity and having just turned 21, he has a vital 2 years ahead of him to get NBA ready. With better handles he could challenge Jonah Bolden for all around point forward ability one day, but that is maybe a stretch, likewise he could guard down to 3 and potential 5's if he bulks up some. There are a varied amount of outcomes for a late bloomer who was not just a tournament favorite but who had a solid year, 1.5blks/pg is hard to ignore, and i don’t think he has finished developing.
  20. Sterling Brown - SG/SF - Another beneficiary of the SMU system who only really competes with his team mate Semi in 3pt% at 45% on 4 attempts/g, combined with a 6'6 large body frame with a 6'9 wingspan, in true 3 and D status. A small lower body maybe underpins his overall strength but his footspeed and smoothness in changing direction means he is not just a straight line driver, who has craft getting to the rim and even though he is surely a catch and shoot option off the bat, he has evidence of making his own shot off of a few dribbles with smooth mechanics. He doesn't shy away from rebounding, that was not really an option for SMU, but adding 2.0 stocks/g shows he was locked in in terms of team defense and reliable. 9.6 BPM is solid, WS at 6 is decent but an overlooked stat is 71.6% TS last season would be 3rd in the NCAA this season (58% this year and 61% for his career as a wing!) and that can't be ignored. Not sure how much upside he has but another functional bench role player in a much sought after position.
  21. Caleb Swanigan - PF/C - TOV prone but apart from that he operates inside and out as a legit potential small ball 5, a la Sullinger, who could be more valuable to some team than just a decent rebounder or a 4-5 3pt threat like Markkanen. Swanigan's trimming down has been well documented and he is more mobile than his limited skillset would suggest, it does not necessarily equate to the defensive end with only 1.2 stocks over the season meaning he has a very limited role and does not venture or gamble much on the defensive end. His 3 assists a game are encouraging compared to .9 for Markkanen, their efg% are equal but Caleb's 3par is less than 50% but very different mechanics, so whether that is just going to run over cleanly to NBA range is questionable and why Markkanen has an edge in shooting, plus the TO's really hurt Swanigan but he could be used in DHO's and brush screens for PNP's while sticking to his rebounding fundamentals on the D end, something Markkanen has shown little attention towards playing with smaller guys this year. All in all maybe a poor comparison, but very similar PER's even with Swanigan almost doubling Markkanen in DRB%, at 32.6 to 17%.
  22. Jordan Bell - PF - See him as a more mature college version of Jerami Grant and probably putting up close to similar numbers to him if he stayed on a few more years, but saying that, Grant is less than a year older than Bell! There is a chance he can run out at the 3 but is more than likely going to be a 4, with impressive stocks at 3.6 in 30mpg, which gives you a defensive base to build up his shot if possible. Ranked 13th in total blocks, 10th in Drtg , 5th in DRPM and 3rd in BPM in the entire NCAA, just proves how much of a factor he is, especially on the defensive end. I am tempted to put him higher but that outside game may limit his range in the draft but I do think he has intriguing foot work and finishing ability that hints to more finesse in his game to the point a shot is not out of the question, and he did shoot the 3 but low 20% so maybe not a lost cause. 3-5 defensive versatility is a stretch but not impossible, as you can see Clint Capela like hops and timing to potentially hold down a 5 spot on a Rockets type offense, while at times resembling a poor mans Paul George on D as a rangey + size 3 who might be able to guard some of the elite 3s in the league and although a long shot I think that is equally as likely as being a Capela like 5. Both potentialities could be in his back pocket but needs the right environment to promote that versatility, something we have seen from Spursian schools of development across the league.
  23. Luke Kennard - SG - This is more of a compliment to the draft than a knock on Luke. We’ve seen his high school repertoire slowly ebb out onto the Duke offense where I watched a lot of his highlights and the feel for the game really shone. His role will be limited in the NBA as he will have a lot to prove it on the other end in a similar way to Ron Baker in NY, there is no doubt he will rise to the bar professionally and put his head down and we have seen that compensate for a lot of shortcomings from IT to Jeff Hornacek. Interestingly, he ranks 2nd in the NCAA in points produced by players in major conferences (behind Frank Mason) in addition to 5FTApg and low TO's. Given the situation in Durham this season with lack of Allen and the ridiculously low rotation, a huge amount was put on Kennard's shoulder with little upperclassmen support apart from Matt Jones, so I am going to keep an eye on how he plays being surrounded by legit floor generals and gravity demanding big men and how he operates in more space but size/length and hops could limit all of his production.
  24. Frank Mason - PG/SG - Frank is well known for his relentless offense at 5'11 and 2nd in OWS and OBPM. He is a leader, experienced and has had to put up with his fair share of inexperienced and emerging players around him since his Wiggns, Embiid, Diallo, Alexander, Oubre days, so he has always had to carry a lot more than he was maybe expected to, and maybe that takeover mentality helped him a lot this year and why that fire might intrigue scouts.
  25. Ivan Rabb - PF/C -I think Ivan was over rated coming into college but I was waiting to see if this potential would come to fruition this season but the games I watched, I just didn’t see him taking over the game or having a nuanced influence on the game. He has an average TRB% somewhat dwarfed by the superior athlete John Collins, and this is supposed to be the strength of Rabb. He is a PNR big with decent hands in gathering and finished but without a PNP option a defender can sag off him, unlike Swanigan and Markkanen who can finish in both directions. Bell has a issue popping but what he lacks on offense he makes up for with activity on D with Rabb putting up low stocks. Combine that with 1.5 assists in 32mpg, he ticks all the boxes of a weak bigs in the league today and unless he can hold down a slot at the 5 and improve his rim protection, I just don’t see where else he could contribute to your team. Like his ex team mate Brown he could become a different player in the NBA, but that begs the question why he went back if he thought he could improve. One major issue I have in rating him is whether he was just coasting in college, as he never looked truly engaged to me, and will just explode in the NBA, hard to see where he excels though, I guess PNR and rebounding, I think Sam Vecine/Zwicker said Gortat and if he doesn’t mind setting a million screens then maybe that is a good role for him.
  26. Jevon Carter - SG - One of the upperclassmen guards I am most interested in making it and most hopeful I am of holding down a serious 2 guard spot with tenaciousness combined with 3pt shooting to potentially be a starter. Pat Beverley is the jump out comp and my only issue is that I have seen work horses that put it all together and benefited based on experience over youth in college only to let you down at the next level. His 3pt shot jumped to 39% on 185 attempts, strong rebounding numbers for his height and role, low TO to assist ratio and a superb 2.5stl/g ranking him 7th in NCAA, but top in major conferences this season. 7th in BPM and 3rd in DWS. His flurry at the end of the season might be a red herring but I think he has sound positioning and works really hard and that makes him likely to slot in to an NBA role early due to being productive on both ends.
  27. Nigel Williams-Goss - PG - I am reluctant to praise Gonzaga players that don’t really pass the eye test because of the weak conference, which is cliche but true. I have to acknowledge his 1st place in WS and tied for points produced with Monk. An issue with WCC guys is there are 3 Zags in top 5 of Drtg but I don’t see any massive weakness in his game and I think he could be blown by at the point of defense but they managed to get the final so worked under pressure.
  28. Derrick White - SG - A nice player to watch who is very crafty getting his shot, finding shots for others and getting to the rim. Slightly reminds me of Tyler Harvey with cunning and quick release from 3, but sub par athleticism that could worry a few coaches and scouts that may see a ceiling, although I am normally a lot more interested in technically skilled players and how the effect the way you play rather than concentrating on size, length and athleticism. 10th in NCAA BPM and just out of the top 20 in PER (great for Pac-12 tough conference!) show that he does play on both ends, and he has been in conference with 3 teams under 6 losses.
  29. Peter Jok - SG/SF -Shooting is definitely his strength, if FT% is anything to go by, which is, supposedly, and Jok ranks 2nd in college for major conferences north of 90%. His attempts/pg have shot up to over 5 with 2 more boards and 1 more assist per game on top last season. His lower body is slightly heavier than his upper body, which sort of makes him an awkward shape with his long wings. His footwork is solid but maybe not as explosive enough to play in the NBA on both ends, whether his shooting is enough to warrant giving him a limited role where he will have to stay in front of his man and rebound his position.
  30. Damyean Dotson - SF - Late addition given the coverage on DE. RANGE and 44% to boot. Emerged as a bonafide 3 with a north of 200lb frame coupled with wing like mobility. Like to see more stock numbers but can not snuff at 7 boards/pg. Sneaky good advanced stats in a decent conference, 6 WS, 24 PER, 59 TS. Super low FTA, evident in SMU game, 5-10 from 3 is no joke but no trips to the line is a concern and whether that D transfers to the next level with very few blocks but maybe his perimeter D is enough.
